BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:05 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) scored a major advance in the East Ghouta region, today, seizing an imperative town from the Islamist rebels in this farming region of Damascus.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army took control of Mesraba early this afternoon, following a 24 hour long battle with the Islamist rebels defending this important town.
The source added that as a result of this advance, the Syrian Arab Army has effectively besieged the largest Islamist stronghold, Douma, as Jaysh Al-Islam has no safe travel route outside of the town.
In addition to besieging Douma through fire control of the roads leading to it, the Syrian Army is also on the verge of splitting the East Ghouta pocket in two.
With virtually no way of getting reinforcements to the East Ghouta, the Islamist rebels now find themselves in a dire situation as the Syrian Army closes in on several areas.
