BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:30 P.M.) – A large number of reinforcements from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) traveled from the eastern countryside of Al-Sweida to the outskirts of Palmyra in order to take part in the upcoming Deir Ezzor offensive, local journalists reported on Saturday.

Several battalions from the Syrian Arab Army’s 1st Armored Division made the short journey from Al-Sweida to Palmyra, Saturday, following orders from their High Command regarding the new objective in central Syria.

The reinforcements will be concentrated along the Deir Ezzor-Palmyra Highway, where they will be tasked with helping the 5th Corps and 18th Division in their attempt to expel the Islamic State forces from this desert region of the Homs Governorate.

While they may not be special forces, the 1st Armored is one of the most battle tested units in the entire army, so their experience will pay dividends in future battles.
