Oh I can hear the fanboys now…….” It was destroyed by a jet to avoid capture” ….or…..”the leopard 2A4 wasnt design to be used this way”………or………”it was a lucky shot from the top” ……..or……..”its was a huge IED located next to the tank in another vehicle” ……..or………”The newer versions are better protected”

boo hoo the “myth” has died over and over, same fatal flaw built into all Leopard 2’s and they explode even better than Abrams, such advanced generation 3 tanks…

2A4 was built until 1987 & is AFAIK contemporary with T72 and T 80 builds. How many T 72 and T 80 were lost?

haha, T72 is generation 2 NOT generation 3, T72 is base line tank design compared to T80 and even more so to T90. T80 never fought in Syria so answer is zero. T80 fought in Chechen war, killed with TEAMS of RPGs, not 1 strike like these leopard 2, 7-8 multiple strikes before destruction even without ERA, they aimed at most vunerable points, belly, top hull, top turret, top engine and fired from above in multi-story buildings OR below ground level in cellars, not like these Leopard 2, hit in (stronger) side turret with 1 strike. or https://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/row/rusav.htm Chechen combat… Read more »

Go YPG! So many people BTW think that the Kurds are all the same. They are not. Barzani is an Israeli Corrupt. Iraqi Kurds who marched for Israeli alliance are the Falliya and are most Shia which gave Shia a terrible reputation and caused many in Iraq to join Daesh. YPG are something else. The King Pin of the Syrian Opposition Showroom from day one – also the Benghazi Debacle is fled from Libya, Malta and previously the UK and is back in Turkey with Erdogan. He has Misrata and part of Tripoli Libya still on lockdown backed by US… Read more »

France also highly supports al-Sisi in Egypt.
Actually, it’s France that hunted down Qaedans and Daeshbags (Boko-Haram) in Sub-Saharian Africa.
Actually, very few advertising : French army is nicknamed “the Big Great Mute” but, to gibe an idea, Boko-Haram alone went from 15,000 to maybe 30-50 now.
At French/EU level, things are pretty simple : a good jihadist is a dead jihadist…

=> a German-manufactured Leopard 2A4, which is considered one of the strongest and most modern tanks in the world. => Leopard 2A4 is last millennium tech. Turkey has 354 Leopard 2 A4. That version was produced until 1992. Some of the military surplus was then sold. Newest Leos are prepared for the danger by TOW etc. when used static without proper support. Similar armor upgrades were denied to Turkey recently because they have been used their 2 A4 against the Kurds. For more details watch Youtube.

It’s clear that the Leo2A7 (maybe even A8 now?) has been highly improved.

Regardless, its one of the MOST catastrophic destruction seen on a “3rd generation” MBT, despite separate ammuniton storage in the turret bustle (15) and mass storage in the front left hull (27). Its resistance to detonation has proven no better than “2 generation” or even “1st generation” designs of various Middle Eastern conflicts despite being touted as advanced, or, best MBT for years.

Third generation has composite armor, thermal imagers, digital fire control systems.

Not so sure whether the 1987 2A4 had separate ammo storage. But I doubt it.

[“Not so sure whether the 1987 2A4 had separate ammo storage. But I doubt it”]

Various changes were applied to the Leopard 2 design before the series production started. Engine, transmission and suspension were slightly modified and improved. The ballistic protection of turret and hull was improved and weak spots were eliminated. The turret bustle containing the ready ammunition racks and the hydraulic systems was separated from the crew compartment and fitted with blow-out panels.

Excuses excuses, 3rd generation and bigger detonation.

Wrong, Leith Fadel : the strongest tank around is AMX Leclerc! There were already ATGM direct hits and jumping on an anti-tank mine with just minor damages!
Several Leopard2 have already been lost in Syria alone.

Yes, several 2A4 where lost. 2A4 production ended in 1987 – Turkish were older tanks, upgraded to that level in 1992. The first lot of Leclerc was delivered 1991 -1996. So You cannot compare that to 2A4. The second Leclerc version was build until 2005. By that time Germany had upgraded almost all to 2A6 and 70 to 2A6M. The later upgrade also included contemporary mine protection plus other goodies. 2A6 has better armor and longer gun than any Leclerc. Among other things. Meanwhile we are at Leopard 2A7 / Leopard 2A7V. 2019 to 2023 but never mind. More than… Read more »
