DAMASCUS, SYRIA (4:00 A.M.) – After liberating a bunch of sites in the morning hours, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) followed up on their blitz Euphrates Wrath offensive by capturing three more villages southwest of Raqqa on Wednesday afternoon.
In a pincer advance which encircled the ISIS-held town of Al-Mansurah on the M4-highway, YPG-led forward units managed to impose full control over the villages of Abu Qubi’a al-Gharbiyah, Al-Hamam and Dahl.
In addition, the SDF expelled ISIS from its last positions at the Baath dam, thereby bringing the three major Euphrates River dams under complete Kurdish control.
Next up, SDF commanders – heavily backed by US warplanes – hope to fully encircle the city of Raqqa by seizing the M4 highway south of the Islamic State capital.
Although all bridges on the Euphrates River have been destroyed by US airstrikes, ISIS is still able to haul in supplies by boat.
