BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:35 P.M.) – The predominately Kurdish “People’s Protection Units” (YPG) reinforced the Afrin Canton this week after the Turkish Army repeatedly attacked their forces in this region located in Aleppo’s northwestern countryside.
According to a Syrian military source, the YPG was able to reinforce the Afrin Canton through the government territories; specifically, the city of Aleppo.
Since the opposition groups in northern Syria are loyal to Turkey, the Kurdish-led forces rely on the Syrian government to give them access to the Afrin Canton from their territories.
Despite disagreements over the U.S.’ presence in the country, the YPG and Syrian Arab Army (SAA) do share a highway that stretches from the provincial capital of Al-Hasakah to Aleppo.
YPG forces were able to access this highway to reinforce the Afrin Canton this week.
