BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:05 P.M.) – US-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces called onto Russia to “declare its clear stance” on the unfolding Turkish military operation in Syria’s Afrin region, speaking from the town of Ayn Issa, 50 km (31 miles) northwest Raqqa on Monday.

“The Russian Federation and through its formal institutional bodies, is invited to declare its clear stance regarding this Turkish assault,” stated SDF Spokesperson Kino Gabriel.

He reasoned that Syrian airspace was monitored by Russian radars at the time of the Afrin military operation and that no aircrafts were supposed to enter Syria without a pre-approved clearance.

“We are completely convinced that the Turkish state would not have dared to bomb our towns and villages and commit massacres against our children, except because the Russian Federation has given up on it ethical duties and gave the green light to them to fly in Afrin’s airspace,” Gabriel said.

Gabriel urged international coalition to “take up its responsibilities” upon the reports of sending more SDF fighters to the Afrin region in a bid to halt the Turkish military operation.

On Saturday, Turkish war planes started to bomb Kurdish positions in Afrin shortly after the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the launch of the military operation dubbed ‘Olive Branch’.

The President also declared that the next destination for the Turkish forces would be Syria’s Manbij.

1.) They’re not reclaiming a separate state. Rojava is NOT KRG! Stp telling LIES!
2.) Syrian govt was UNABLE to prevent ISIS advances and to help Kurds in 2013. PYD sought hep where they could! Russia intervened only 2 years later. By this time, Turkish proxies would have had performed a genocide without western help.
3.) f**k Turkey

When I read the title of the note I thought that they were asking the US to defend them, and it seems logical to me. The US charges them with weapons to divide Syria and now they leave them alone in front of Turkey. But claim Russia? With what law? Russia has no defense agreement with Syria and much less with the Kurds supported by the US and the Zionist entity. If they do not avoid the attacks of the Israeli regime or the US, they will not intervene now either. The YPG was offered to return Afrin to the… Read more »
