BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:00 P.M.) – The Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) launched a powerful attack on the Turkish military base in the northern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate this afternoon.
According to a report from Aleppo, the YPG launched several artillery shells towards the Turkish military base west of Azaz city; this resulted in a number of casualties for the Turkish military.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed that at least one soldier was killed as a result of the shelling.
Three other soldiers were injured when the YPG staged a mortar attack on a Turkish military convoy passing by the Maranez village, the Defense Ministry’s public relations department said in a statement, noting that the Turkish military immediately responded with retaliatory fire.
In response to the YPG attack, the Turkish military unleashed several artillery shells towards the Kurdish group’s defenses near the city of Azaz.
The fierce exchange between the YPG and Turkish military has since died down despite the fact tensions still remain high in northern Aleppo.
