DAMASCUS, SYRIA (11:35 A.M.) – With the battle for Raqqa soon entering its 4th month, ISIS and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continued to fight each other across three suburbs of Raqqa city throughout the weekend.
According to a Kurdish source close to Al-Masdar News, the SDF captured dozens of buildings inside the Al-Rawda neighborhood on Monday.
Meanwhile, large firefights erupted in the western districts of Al-Amin and Al-Hina where 49 ISIS members were reported to have been killed in merely 24 hours. During these clashes, the SDF sustained three deaths and four injuries to their own ranks, the source added.
Subsequently, SDF forces seized 21 AK-47 guns from the slaughtered jihadists. While US-backed Kurdish forces were gathering the weapons, an ISIS suicide bomber on a motorbike tried to reach the battle zone but was shot dead before blowing up the designated target.
Around 60% of Raqqa’s provincial capital has been brought under SDF control while jihadist insurgents remain bogged down around the city centre and northern suburbs.
