BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:40 A.M.) – The People’s Protection Units (YPG) claimed on Sunday that their forces have destroyed at least four Turkish tanks in the Islamist-held town of ‘Azaz in northern Aleppo.

According to the YPG’s official media wing, their forces destroyed the four Turkish tanks after their mortar shell hit an ammo depot.

As a result of their alleged mortar shell strike, loud explosions ripped through this ammo depot, resulting in the destruction of the four Turkish tank.

Below is the video of the alleged attack by the YPG:

Contrasting these claims were the Turkish-backed rebels, who claimed the loud explosions in ‘Azaz were a result of a fuel depot explosion.

The bright explosions and the secondary flying objects are no fuel tank.
The black smoke in the aftermath can be from burning fuel.

I am skeptical of YPG claims here – this does not look like Azaz town which is on lower terrain with high ground/slopes to north-west. No tanks can be seen. Flame and smoke signature of fuel dump.

If You say it does not look like Aʿzāz. Ok. Never been close to it. But that is definitely a view to the mountains. In what direction do You see mountains from there? Direction to Kilis? You did not look close. There are small objects flying above and out off the bright fire. Definitely nothing You have in a fuel dump. Explosions of ammo throw that up normally. Like fireworks. 😉 Fuel in refinery or oil well fire often creates a sooty fringe along the flames and black smoke. The smoke here is IMHO white to grey mostly. That is… Read more »

Yes, but it is difficult to be certain – certainly no sight of 4 tanks in that small area
