BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:50 P.M.) – Fighters of the US-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces have wrested control of a strategic township from ISIS amid ongoing advances in eastern Deir Ezzor province.

According to reliable Kurdish sources, the Syrian Democratic Forces have, in the last several hours, officially taken control of the key ISIS stronghold of as-Suwar.

Yesterday, US-backed fighters pushed ISIS from the grain silos area just outside of the town and, following this, reportedly battled their way into the town, ejecting ISIS militants at some point today.

The strategic town in question is located along the middle Khabur River region and commands a major road running from the settlements of al-Busayrah (south of it) to Hasakah (north of it).

By imposing control over the town, the Syrian Democratic Forces now commands the entire length of the road between as-Suwar and the Deir Ezzor industrial zone, an important logistical line if it is to continue operations along the Khabur River.

“captured” is hardly the right word for this cosy arrangement.

Yes, ‘Walked into’ might have been a better description.

Daesh is putting up such a fight against SAA in Dier Ez Zorr. SDF Kurds seem to be having an easy cake walk in as-Suwar. Looks so fishy. Kurds had sympathy of the world earlier due to the rape & plunder Daesh did on the Kurds but now no more the way Kurds are negotiating with Daesh. Is it possible Americans have again identified the Good & Bad Daesh who are giving way or did they do any recent air lifts? Once the Daesh is ejected what will happen in Dier Ez Zorr? SAA & RuAF will clash with SDF… Read more »
