BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:20 P.M.) – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) seized full control of the Damascus-Raqqa Highway from the Islamic State (ISIL) terrorist organization this morning, local activists reported today.
Backed by U.S. Coalition airstrikes, the Syrian Democratic Forces captured the remaining points linking the eastern countryside of Hama to Al-Raqqa, forcing the Islamic State militants to mass retreat across the southwestern part of the province.
With Damascus-Raqqa Highway under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the fall of the Islamic State stronghold of Tabaqa City is inevitable.
For the Islamic State militants fighting in northern Syria, the loss of this highway is another setback in what has already been a rough start to the year.
