DAMASCUS, SYRIA (2:55 P.M.) – The Kurdish-led ‘Syrian Democratic Force’ are sweeping like an avalanche across rural Raqqa, capturing village after village surrounding the Islamic State capital.
With the final stage of the Euphrates Wrath offensive in full throttle, the SDF – heavily backed by US warplanes – managed to seize Tawi and Maksayn, two river villages located roughly six kilometers southeast of Raqqa city.
Meanwhile, SDF contingents – backed by the Manbij Military Council (MMC) – took control over the ISIS bastion Marmah Darwish, thus eliminating an ISIS bulge some 8 kilometers north of the provincial capital.
With Kurdish and US drones hovering all over the place, the SDF also managed to seize control of Nazmah just one kilometer east of Raqqa city.
The first probing Kurdish attacks have now begun on the city itself with YPG fighters targeting ISIS sniper nests in the eastern Al-Mashalab district.
