BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:10 P.M.) – The Kurdish-led “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF) continued their large-scale offensive in the western countryside of Al-Raqqa on Saturday, liberating several sites from the Islamic State terrorists near the Tabaqa Dam.
The Syrian Democratic Forces began the day by liberating some villages located directly north of the Tabaqa Dam, killing and wounding several members of the Islamic State en route to their swift advance to the northern part of Lake Al-Assad.
According to the Syrian Democratic Forces’ official media account, their units liberated the key village of Suwaydiyah Al-Saghirah after overrunning the Islamic State’s positions north of the Tabaqa Dam.
With their recent advance in western Al-Raqqa today, the Syrian Democratic Forces are now within striking distance of the strategic Tabaqa Military Airport; this installation is considered one of the Islamic State’s most important bases in northern Syria.
ISIS has been in control of the Tabaqa Military Airport since August 2014, when they overran the Syrian Arab Army’s positions and took hold of the installation.
