DAMASCUS, SYRIA (10:00 P.M.) – On Thursday evening, the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed Russian officer Major Sergey Bordov was killed while advising soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in rural Hama.
The fallen Russian soldier can be seen on the right:
The story somewhat correlates with a bulletin released by Jaish al-Izza (US-supported Free Syrian Army group) on Tuesday, claiming two Russian soldiers to have been killed due to a TOW missile attack. The Russian MoD did not confirm the death of the second soldier.
The guided missile hit the Khattab military base. Subsequently, a video of the incident emerged online:
A total of 28 Russian servicemen have been killed since September 2015 when Moscow intervened in the Syrian conflict at the invitation of Damascus in support of the SAA.
