Kurds in the northern Syrian town of Kobani conducted a protest rally warning Turkey not to military incur into the town after the YPG told residents on Saturday that Turkish forces were preparing to mobilize towards it.
“We will not allow them to enter, we will stay here if necessary for days and months and… defend this land,” said one Kobani resident.
Turkey have made it clear that its Euphrates Shield Operation will only be conducted on the western side of the Euphrates river, whereas Kobani is on its eastern shores.
The YPG have however claimed that Turkish artillery has targeted a village close to Kobani on Friday night.
Turkey deny the YPG allegations stating that military vehicles near the border are only to protect construction vehicles who are building a wall along the border adjacent to the city.
YPG militants engaged with ISIS in January 2015 for the control of Kobani. They were successful with the help of coalition airstrikes.
