BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:14 A.M.) – Residents of Kobane expressed their satisfaction with the US military’s presence in the self-autonomous north Syrian region known as “Rojava” among Kurds, footage filmed on Friday revealed.
The autonomy of “Rojava” is unrecognized by Damascus or any state in the world.
Meanwhile a resident in Kobane explained how Turkish forces attempted to ‘infiltrate’ the city.
“The Turkish forces aimed to infiltrate Kobane, or the Western side through Afrin and Jazira. But, the presence of the US forces and the international coalition prevented the danger of having these Turkish forces come into northern Syria,” a Kobane resident said.
“Our goal in Rojava is to destroy Daesh [ISIS], and our second goal is to prevent the incursion of Turkish forces. The goal of the Turkish forces was to infiltrate Kobane, or the western region such as Afrin and Jazira, but the presence of the US forces and the interantional coalition, of course, prevented the infiltration of Turkish forces in northern Syria,” the resident continued.
Meanwhile, another civilian revealed how important they believed the US forces in Syria to be as they protect them from Turkish forces.
“It [Turkey] began expanding and supporting terrorist groups, which gained grounds in northern Syria and the Shahba region. It [supported] a group called al-Furat shield, and it worked on crushing the hopes of the Kurdish and Syrian people. This way, there came to be a coalition, and international coalition, especially with the US forces, in northern Syria, and they have become a protective shield against the expansion of Turkish greed in this region.”
Farhan Hajj Eiisa, member of Movement for a Democratic Society revealed that: “This coordination between the Democratic Syrian Forces and the international coalition in general and the USA in particular, this will harm the Turkish state, which sponsors terrorism in the region, which has become very clear.”
In 2014, ISIS were almost successful in capturing the entire town, but Kurdish forces with US air support managed to repel the attack in January 2015.
