The predominately Kurdish militia operating in northern Syria, the People’s Protection Units (YPG), conducted a number of attacks on Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) positions in eastern Kobane (‘Ayn Al-‘Arab), killing scores of militants from the latter before capturing the strategic Kobane Library and Water Facility.
In conjunction with the capture of the Kobane Library and Water Facility, the YPG took control of 3 vital building blocks adjacent to the Library inside the city of Kobane. The YPG’s success in eastern Kobane has delivered the ISIS militants entrenched inside the city a significant blow, while also forcing the latter to have to reinforce their troops on the volatile southern front in this Aleppo Governorate area.
According to a Kurdish source, the YPG killed a substantial amount of ISIS fighters in the eastern sector of Kobane, including 3 Saudi militants that were identified as “Uthman Al-Nazih”, “Nizar Mahmoud ‘Abdel-Hadi Al-‘Attallah”, and “Mounir ‘Abdel-Lateef Al-Moussa.”
