To much of the surprise of the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard, the Islamist militants from Jaysh Al-Islam and Faylaq Al-Rahman launched an offensive inside the decrepit city Jobar on Sunday morning; however, the Islamist factions were plagued from the onset, as the Syrian Armed Forces were able to repel the offensive some ten hours after it began.
The Islamists from Jaysh Al-Islam and Faylaq Al-Rahman began their offensive at the dilapidated Teacher’s Tower, where they encountered a large contingent from the SAA’s 105th Brigade that was entrenched around the empty residential apartment buildings along the street.
Running into a well-positioned and well-armed enemy, the militants from Jaysh Al-Islam and Faylaq Al-Rahman found themselves quickly surrounded by the Republican Guard brigade; this resulted in a series of fierce clashes between the opposing groups that would later subside after the Islamist militants retreated towards the city-center.
According to a military source in the East Ghouta, the Syrian Armed Forces lost a total of 11 soldiers during these intense firefights; meanwhile, Jaysh Al-Islam and Faylaq Al-Rahman suffered as many as 35 casualties at the city of Jobar on Sunday.
Recently, the fighting has escalated inside of Jobar, as the Syrian Armed Forces began to target the Islamist factions near the Mail Delivery Post and Parliament Square inside the city.
