BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:00 P.M.) – The jihadist rebels launched a new attack on the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses in southeastern Idlib, as they attempted to recover the territories they lost last month.
Led by elements from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), the jihadits began their attack by striking the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses near the towns of Al-Bursa and Samkah in southeastern Idlib.
As soon as the clashes broke out, however, the jihadist rebels found themselves under heavy attack from the air, as Russian warplanes hammered their support forces.
According to a military source near the front-lines, the Syrian Arab Army was able to repel the jihadist attack after the latter withdrew from the Samkah axis following heavy losses.
Not long after the jihadist attack, the Russian and Syrian air forces launched several airstrikes across southern Idlib, with most of the strikes concentrating on the Ma’arat Al-Nu’man District.
The Syrian Arab Army was previously on the offensive in southeastern Idlib; however, due to the poor weather in the governorate, they have temporarily halted their operations.
