BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:30 P.M.) – The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and Jaysh Al-‘Izza launched counter-offensive in the northern countryside of Hama today, striking the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses around the village of Al-Massasnah.
Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham led the offensive by utilizing several suicide bombers in an attempt to overwhelm the Syrian Arab Army units defending Al-Massasnah.
However, several of the suicide attackers from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham failed to reach their intended targets, resulting in a number of loud explosions near Al-Massasnah.
Following the suicide attacks, the jihadist rebels stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at Al-Massasnah; this led to a fierce battle that lasted for over three hours on Thursday.
The jihadist rebels were unable to break-through the Syrian Army’s defenses and were forced to withdraw their assault as a result of their high casualty count.
According to a military source in northern Hama, the jihadist rebels suffered over 25 casualties during today’s failed offensive, including a number of foreign combatants.
