BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:20 A.M.) – The jihadist and Turkish-backed rebels launched a big counter-offensive this past weekend to retake the territory they lost to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in northwestern Hama.
Led by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham attempted to retake several sites from the Syrian Army, including the key town of Kafr Naboudeh, which they lost last Wednesday.
This militant counter-offensive would be short lived, as the Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and their rebel allies suffered a large number of casualties.

According to a military source in northwestern Hama, the militant death toll from their recent counter-assault is upwards around 50, with a large number of the dead coming from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
The jihadist counter-assault was the largest attack launched by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham since they lost Kafr Naboudeh and Qal’at Al-Madiq earlier in the week.
While the jihadists suffered the higher number of casualties, the Syrian Arab Army did also report several losses within in their own ranks.
A source from the military said the Syrian Army and their allies from the National Defense Forces suffered around 20 casualties during battle.
The majority of the Syrian military personnel killed during the jihadist counter-assault occurred during the first part of the battle, the source added.
