Ultraconservative militants fighting for Jabhet al-Nusra, Syrian al-Qaeda branch, and Ahrar al-Sham Islamic Movement began, this morning, transferring equipment and supplies of Zayzoun Power Plant to Turkey after dismantling it.
Local residents of Jisr al-Shoghour said that the Islamic militants used heavy machineries, trucks and tower cranes to disassemble and later transfer the Power Plant to Turkish territories.
“There is no way for those militants to dismantle the Power Plant by themselves; it is too complicated for them, it takes specialized experts to do so. They must have brought some from somewhere”, a former engineer at the Power Plant told Syria’s official news agency, SANA.
Zayzoun (Zayzun) CCGT Power Plant Syria is located at 33km SW of Idlib, Syria. This infrastructure is of TYPE Gas Power Plant with a design capacity of 544 MWe. It has 4 unit(s). The first unit was commissioned in 1997 and the last in 2008. It is operated by Zayzoun Power Public Corporation.
The facility, with an estimated cost of $500 million, was seized by the Nusra-led Jaish al-Fateh during a wide-scale offensive in June 2015.
