A comprehensive map of the ongoing situation inside the Latakia Governorate.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:35 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a powerful attack at the key mountaintop town of Kabani, yesterday, targeting the southern axis of this jihadist stronghold.

At the start of the attack, the Syrian Arab Army was able to penetrate the defense lines of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham; however, this success would be short-lived as the latter would push the military back later in the day.

According to a field report from the Latakia Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army was forced to retreat back to Height 1154 after suffering a number of casualties at the hands of the jihadist rebels.

Since early May, the Syrian Arab Army has repeatedly attempted to crack the jihadist lines Kabani, but all of their attacks have been repulsed by the HTS and Turkestan Islamic Party militants.

To the Syrian Army’s high command, Kabani is a strategic town that needs to be captured in order to secure the Latakia Governorate.

In addition to securing Latakia, capturing Kabani will give the Syrian Army fire control over several areas en route to the jihadist stronghold of Jisr Al-Shughour.

Jisr Al-Shughour is located along the imperative Latakia-Idlib Highway; it was seized by the jihadist rebels of Jaysh Al-Fateh in the Spring of 2015.

Multiple drone shots have been posted by opposition supporters on Twitter. The SAA is not only fighting uphill they are also allowing the opposition to have clear aerial intel of their formations; allowing them to be targeted by mortars, artillery and ATGMs. They need to prioritize downing these drones during these offensives, otherwise the cost in lives and morale will be extremely high.

SAA is wasting time and man in that area SAA should open up new front in from Aleppo or from Abudhar airport to put pressure on jihadist and round them up. SAA should leave kabana and start operation from east side o move towards west and rond them up from 3 different front SAA and allies has to go all the way now or Syria will loose idlib forever to turkey.

My goodness, what ineptitude of some Syria generals. With all those advanced Syria weapons given by Russia, with so many Syria soldiers, with air support, it is really frustating reading this type of news. It looks like Syria soldiers are not fighting for their people or land but other reasons.

SAA has several main weaknesses. One is weak strategic Command. Another is lack of crack units and the third follows the second. Very weak NDF units: again weak command, low moral and fighting spirit, low quality arms, even worse training. Therefore, no secure rear echelons.
