BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:30 A.M.) – For the second time in the last 72 hours, the jihadist rebels have attempted to bomb the Russian military’s Hmeimim Airbase in the Syrian coastal governorate of Latakia.
Using their attack drones, the jihadist rebels attempted to drop unguided bombs on the Hmeimim Airbase last night, a source told Al-Masdar News this morning.
According to the source, the Russian air defenses were able to foil the jihadist attack by destroying the assault drones before they could reach the vicinity of the Hmeimim Airbase.
The source added that the Russian air defense sirens could be heard throughout the coastal city of Jableh as the Hmeimim Airbase was notifying the public of the ongoing situation.
Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and their jihadist allies launched a heavy attack on the Latakia Governorate this past week, targeting sites inside the provincial capital, Hmeimim Airbase, and mountainous town of Slunfeh.
The jihadist attack resulted in the death of at least one civilian in the southern districts of Latakia city.
In response to these jihadist strikes, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Russian Air Force have unleashed several attacks agianst the militants, hitting a number of targets in the Idlib, Hama, Latakia, and Aleppo governorates.
