BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 A.M.) – The special forces of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham carried out a powerful ambush in the southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate last night.

Under the cover night, the Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham fighters began their attack by sneaking past the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) scouts near the small town of Atshan.

Once they were behind the Syrian Army lines, the Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham forces ambushed the former, killing and wounding several government soldiers in the process.

Following the attack, the Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham fighters managed to slip back to their lines in order to evade the Syrian military reinforcements that deployed to the area.

According to a military source in Hama, the Syrian Arab Army responded to the jihadist ambush this morning by launching several surface-to-surface missiles and artillery shells towards Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s positions around the town of Atshan.

With the recent build-up of their forces in northern Hama and southern Idlib, the Syrian Arab Army is expected to launch a new operation against the jihadist rebels in the coming weeks.
