DAMASCUS, SYRIA (6:00 A.M.) – At 4:00 A.M. (Damascus Time) this morning, the jihadist rebels of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front) and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham launched a wide-scale offensive to lift the siege on the key town of Khan Al-Sheih in the West Ghouta region of rural Damascus.
The jihadist rebel factions began the offensive by launching attacks at several axes near Khan Al-Sheih, resulting in a violent battle with the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized and 7th Armored divisions.
Despite the intensity of this jihadist attack, no gains have been reported by local military sources in rural Damascus.
According to one senior army officer, the Syrian Armed Forces repelled the wide-scale jihadist assault after a two hour long battle with the jihadist rebels.
Meanwhile, social media activists in support of the jihadist rebels argue otherwise, claiming that the offensive is still ongoing.
