BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:10 P.M.) – The jihadist rebels have launched a massive assault in the northwestern countryside of the Hama Governorate, today, targeting the areas captured by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) over the last few weeks.
Led by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, the jihadist rebels stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at the town of Huwayz; this led to a fierce confrontation that is still ongoing at this time.
According to a military source near the front-lines, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham is attempting to push south and retake several areas they lost, including the strategic town of Qal’at Al-Madiq.
Qal’at Al-Madiq was captured by the Syrian Arab Army during the first week of their large-scale offensive in the northwestern countryside of the Hama Governorate. Since its capture, it has not been contested by the jihadist rebels.
The jihadist rebels do have the territorial advantage because they control the Shashabo Mountain; however, the Syrian Army likely outnumbers their fighters due to the large number of reinforcements that were deployed to this front.
