BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:00 A.M.) – The jihadist rebels launched a surprise assault in the northern countryside of the Latakia Governorate last night that targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions near the Al-Ghaab Plain.
Led by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, the jihadist rebels stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s positions just south of the strategic town of Kabbani in the Kurdish Mountains.
According to a military source in Latakia, the jihadist rebels killed four Syrian Arab Army soldiers and wounded five others before they withdrew back to Kabbani last night.
In response to the jihadist hit-and-run attack in northern Latakia, the Syrian Arab Army unleashed a large number of missiles towards the HTS stronghold of Kabbani.
The military source said that the Syrian Army missiles repeatedly struck the jihadist defenses before dawn this morning.
This latest attack by the jihadist rebels marks the first time since the Sochi Agreement last week that either side has carried out a ground assault in the Latakia Governorate.
