BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:20 A.M.) – The jihadist rebels attempted to bomb the Russian military’s Hmeymim Airbase, tonight, a source told Al-Masdar News.
According to the source, jihadist armed drones managed to approach the northeastern perimeter of the Hmeymim Airbase before they were shot down by the Russian military’s Pantsir guns downed the unmanned aerial vehicles.
The source added that the jihadist armed drones were flown from the Jisr Al-Shughour District in southwest Idlib; this area is the future target for the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) offensive.
As shown in the video below, the Russian Pantsir guns targeted the encroaching armed drones in the northeastern part of the Hmeymim Airbase:
Recently, the jihadist rebels have been launching several attempted attacks on the Hmeymim Airbase, despite the fact they rarely hit the installation.
The Hmeymim Airbase is the Russian military’s largest installation in Syria; it has in service since late 2015.
