BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:00 A.M.) – The jihadist rebels launched a powerful attack on Sunday to expel the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) from the southwestern region of the Idlib Governorate.

Led by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, the jihadist rebels began their assault by storming the northern axis of Qasabiyah. This town is located at the southwestern slope of Idlib’s Jabal Al-Zawiya region.

Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and their jihadist allies repeatedly stormed the Syrian Army’s positions at Qasabiyah in a bid to break through the government’s main line of defense.

Despite a brief infiltration into Qasabiyah, the jihadist rebels were unable to score any significant advance at this front.

According to a military source in nearby Mhardeh, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) managed to kill several jihadist rebels during the battle at Qasabiyah on Sunday afternoon.

The source added that the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces are shifting their focus to the Tal Malah front, where they are expected to launch another assault to retake this key hilltop from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and Jaysh Al-Izza.

Seems this is turning into a war of attrition. Both have manpower reserves to waste but SAA has a limited number of crack troops. Once gone, SAA will be blunted in assaults. Islamists have the same problem in armor. Once gone, they have none unless TSK provides it.

Meanwhile, IS is gathering strength in the Badiya. Rumors of NDF unit(s) being taken out.

@Karel, much like near the end of the Spanish civil war, and the SAA already controls the population centers as a source of recruits.

This is IMHO the main problem of the Sultan’s Jihadi.

p.s. With Russian support and much experience of their own the Syrian army can recruit and train new soldiers for their elite regiments and create new elite formations like the fifth legion.

Insisto, la solución es la fuerza aérea con bombas poderosas para eliminar en bloque a los terroristas.
