BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:15 P.M.) – The jihadist rebels launched a new offensive in the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate this afternoon.
Led by group calling themselves “Tanzim Hurras Al-Deen”, the jihadist rebels attempted to advance at the large hilltop of Tal Bizam near the town of Souran.
However, the jihadist offensive would ultimately be short-lived, as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces (NDF) were well-prepared to defend this attack.
According to a source from the National Defense Forces, their troops and the Syrian Army were able to defeat the jihadist rebels after the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) heavily bombarded the encroaching militants.
The jihadist rebels were believed to have suffered heavy casualties during this failed offensive, with some pro-government activists claiming as many as 40 militants killed.
The NDF source said they believe at least ten militants were killed by Tal Bizam, but the total dead from the Syrian Air Force’s attack is unknown.
This new jihadist attack was launched in retaliation for the Syrian Arab Army’s large-scale offensive in the southern province of Daraa.
Earlier this month, the jihadist rebels promised to launch a big assault in response to this government offensive; this is believed to be the first of many future attacks.
