BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:55 P.M.) – For the second time in the last 72 hours, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and Faylaq Al-Rahman attempted to recover the ground they lost to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the Harasta suburb.
The two rebel factions began the assault by storming the Syrian Army’s positions at the Harasta Orchards and police housing area; this would result in a fierce battle that would ensue for several hours on Friday.
However, despite their best efforts to push back the Syrian Army, the jihadist rebels were ultimately forced to retreat after they failed to infiltrate the government lines at both the Harasta Orchards and police housing area.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Army killed scores of militants during the jihadist counter-assault, while also destroying a number of technical vehicles that were mounted with machine guns.
The Syrian Army would also suffer a number of casualties during the assault, as the intensity of the battle required several soldiers to partake in driving back the jihadist rebels.
