Day 2 of the Jihadist civil war began with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launching a powerful assault inside Lebanon, targeting Jabhat Al-Nusra’s (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) positions along the western slopes of the Qalamoun Mountains.
Intense firefights were reported inside Jaroud ‘Arsal and Ras Ba’albak, leaving several Jihadists dead or wounded near the Syrian border-crossing into Jaroud Qarah.
According to the Lebanese Defense Ministry, ISIS reportedly targeted Jabhat Al-Nusra’s logistical and communication centers in the villages of Zamrani, Ajram, Kornet, Hashishat, Malahi, and Wadi Shabib.
Following the ISIS attack, Jabhat Al-Nusra reinforcements poured into the Qalamoun Mountains to help recover several points they lost in the last 48 hours.
Jabhat Al-Nusra is now on the offensive in Ras Ba’albak and Jaroud ‘Arsal; however, they have yet to make any progress along this important Lebanese front.
