DAMASCUS, SYRIA (2:30 P.M.) – Jihadi groups thwarted a counter-attack launched by the Syrian Army on the western outskirts of Aleppo.
The assault was initiated this morning on rebel positions located to the west of al-Zahraa Association Quarter, al-Rashideen and Shuwayhnah hilltop.
For the second time in 5 days, the government troops fail to finalize their attack as jihadi fighters, led by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (formerly Jabhet al-Nusra), manage to keep their positions and repel the offensive.
Rebel sources confirmed that at least five Army soldiers were killed during the failed offensive, before the government forces terminate the attack.
Last week, the Syrian forces succeeded in securing Shuwayhnah hilltop for only 5 hours before being expelled due to a powerful counter-attack by the jihadi fighters.
