DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:55 P.M.) – Jihadi militants in east Daraa countryside fired another barrage of missiles on Suwayda city as the Syrian Army initiated an offensive on Syria’s south.
The bloody attack, the second this week, killed 2 civilians and injured 3 others as the rockets hit heavily-populated residential areas.
The attack is seen as a retaliation for the Syrian Army’s continuous strikes against rebel positions across the eastern countryside of Daraa as part of a wider onslaught to oust jihadi militants from the territories they control in Daraa and Quneitra provinces.
On Tuesday, rebels fired their first rocket attack on Suwayda city since 2015.
Meanwhile, battles currently fought in east and northeast Daraa countryside have granted the government troops control over several villages and towns, and inflicted heavy losses upon the al-Qaeda-linked militants.
