DAMASCUS, SYRIA (8:40 A.M.) – A high-level military commander of al-Nusra jihadi group was killed in Idlib amid a new surge of assassinations recently sweeping the jihadi-held province.
Abu Abd al-Malik al-Qawqazi, a foreign jihadist from the Caucasus, was shot dead by unidentified assailants who stormed his farm near Tamanaa – Tahtaya road in south Idlib countryside.
The number of assassination attempts across rebel-controlled regions has considerably increased following the recent agreement concluded between Russia and Turkey to establish a demilitarization zone in Idlib.
Yesterday, three militants –all belong to the al-Qaeda-linked Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham group – were killed when unknown assailants in balaclavas stormed their base near in al-Layramoun area in northwest Aleppo.
In a related context, HTS group said that its security forces had uncovered a sleeper cell for the Islamic State (ISIS) in Dana town, located in north Idlib countryside.
According to the group, the members of the cell were either killed or captured during a short firefight.
