BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:50 A.M.) – The Islamist rebels of Jaysh Al-Islam launched a massive counter-offensive in the East Ghouta region of Damascus on Wednesday night, targeting the farms they recently lost between the towns of Hawsh Al-Dawahra and Al-Shifouniyah.

Jaysh Al-Islam began the assault by sending wave-after-wave of militants towards the Syrain Arab Army’s defenses in order to exhaust the latter’s soldiers.

While no gains were reported by either side yet, the Islamist rebels did manage to kill one Syrian Arab Army soldier, a military source told Al-Masdar on Wednesday evening.

The Islamist rebels will need to recapture these farms from the Syrian Arab Army in the coming days, or else they will find themselves under a heavy attack at Al-Shifouniyah.

Syria needs to negotiate with someone that has strong military presence. While Nusra, Ahrar el Sham and ISIS are excluded, it remains Jaish el Islam as the only option.

Yes, what you are saying is correct. Rebels that hold arms against the government/people should be fought. But unfortunately and SADLY, the SAA can’t fight and win on every front. We need to remember this and be realistic. Russia won’t support military the SAA forever and thus I think it is a good idea to negotiate with the less extremists of the fighters, i. e., Jaysh el Islam.

On a side note, obviously Jaysh el Islam did commit terror acts in the past, but they still all the less “extremists”.
