The Islamist rebel fighters of Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) have reportedly surrendered to Syrian Security Forces inside the Al-Rayhan Farms of the East Ghouta on Wednesday; this report comes one week after the Syrian Armed Forces launched a counter-assault in this area to recover the territory they lost to the Islamist group.

According to a military source in Damascus, the field commander of Jaysh Al-Islam and his entire contingent willingly surrendered to the Syrian Security Forces after they a brief, but violent engagement at these collection of farms located east of the Syrian Capital.

Despite the surrender of this contingent, Jaysh Al-Islam and the Syrian Armed Forces have continued their intense firefights inside the Al-Rayhan Farms, as both parties look to take control of this strategic area located near the rebel-stronghold of Douma in the East Ghouta.

On Wednesday, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) increased the intensity and prevalence of their airstrikes above the East Ghouta, targeting the Islamist rebels of Jaysh Al-Islam at the cities of Harasta, Douma, Dayr Al-‘Assafir, Zibdeen, Jisreen, and Jobar.

The Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – resumed their offensive in the dilapidated city of Jobar on Wednesday, attacking Jaysh Al-Islam at the Mail Depot, Parliament Square, the Teachers Tower, and the Al-Tayba Mosque.
