BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 A.M.) – Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) launched a desperate counter-offensive in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus on Sunday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses inside the imperative town of Hazrama and nearby hilltop of Tal Farzat.
Hoping to catch the Syrian Army off-guard, Jaysh Al-Islam stormed Hazrama’s central district in order to restore their primary supply route from a nearby village.
However, this Jaysh Al-Islam military endeavor would fall short of its intended goal, as the Syrian Arab Army was well-prepared to defend their territorial gains they made on Sunday.
According to a military source in Damascus, Jaysh Al-Islam suffered over 15 casualties during the failed counter-attack, while also losing two armored vehicles that were destroyed by the Syrian Arab Army’s ATGMs (anti-tank guided missiles).
In addition to foiling the counter-attack at Hazrama, the Syrian Arab Army also repelled Jaysh Al-Islam’s attempted advance at Tal Farzat after a short two hour battle on Sunday evening.
