The Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and Liwaa Al-Yarmouk were ambushed by the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division and the National Defense Forces (NDF) at the Al-Lajat area of west As-Sweida and east Dara’a, resulting in the death of over 35 armed militants and the confiscation of their rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles.
The ambush began at 8:30 A.M. on Tuesday morning, when the SAA’s 5th Division – in coordination with the NDF and Jaysh Al-Muwahiddeen (Durzi army) – received a civilian tip regarding a large militant convoy heading towards the As-Sweida part of the Al-Lajat area.
Upon receiving this information, the NDF and Jaysh Al-Muwahiddeen fighters took up their positions on the road the militants were traveling on and then laid the ambush near the As-Sweida Governorate’s border; this resulted in a fierce firefight between the opposing parties.
After almost an hour of fighting, the SAA’s 5th Division arrived with heavy armory and helped drive the enemy combatants back towards the Dara’a Governorate, but not before they killed almost all of the opposing militants.
Meanwhile, in east Dara’a, intense firefights were reported between the SAA’s 5th Division and Jabhat Al-Nusra at the Al-Shaami Farms, where the latter attempted to infiltrate past the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontline defenses, despite being outnumbered – Jabhat Al-Nusra was later repelled.
At Al-Na’yma in east Dara’a,, the SAA’s 5th Division – in coordination with the NDF – destroyed two armored vehicles mounted with doshkas that belonged to Jabhat Al-Nusra.
West of Al-Na’yma, the SAA’s 5th Division secured the road leading to the town of Busra Al-Hareer from the Syrian Government’s stronghold at ‘Izra; this has allowed the Syrian Armed Forces full access to the northwest part of Busra Al-Hareer.
The militants from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) affiliated “Southern Front Brigades” attempted to push their way to the Syrian Armed Forces last supply line to the provincial capital of Dara’a at ‘Itmann; however, they were unsuccessful, as the assault on town lasted only two hours before the militants withdrew.
