The Syrian Al-Qaeda branch “Jabhat Al-Nusra (Al-Nusra Front) has declared all-out war against their former allies from Harakat Hazzm (Movement of Steadfastness) after the latter kidnapped and killed “Abu ‘Issa Al-Tabaqa” – a Jabhat Al-Nusra field commander in Aleppo.
Tensions between the two rebel groups have developed for months; however, as of recently, they have escalated into both parties issuing threats to one another.
Harakat Hazzm has recently joined the conglomerate of rebel forces in Aleppo known as the “Levant Front” (Jabhat Al-Sham) – a Jabhat Al-Nusra ally in the province of Aleppo.
According to U.S. officials, Harakat Hazzm is one of the rebel groups that have been distinguished as a “moderate” force; therefore, they have been armed with TOW missiles (anti-tank).
Jabhat Al-Nusra is the larger force and they operate on numerous fronts in this conflict; it was their reinforcements that assisted their embattled comrades during the National Defense Forces (NDF) offensive in northern Aleppo.
