The Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and their allies from the Free Syrian Army” launched another offensive in the contested Al-Rastan Plains of the Homs Governorate’s northern countryside, targeting the National Defense Forces (NDF) at the imperative towns of Jiboureen and Tisneen on Saturday morning.
When the offensive began, Jabhat Al-Nusra and their allies were initially successful, capturing two checkpoints outside of the town of Tisneen; however, reinforcements from the Natonal Defense Forces and the Al-Ba’ath Battalions succored their embattled comrades recapture the lost territory and pushed the Al-Qaeda members back towards ‘Umm Sharshouh in the Al-Rastan Plains.
According to a source from the National Defense Forces in Homs City, the Syrian Armed Forces reportedly suffered 9 soldiers killed-in-action (KIA), along with 5 other soldiers that were wounded-in-action (WIA); meanwhile, pro-Nusra social media activists reported that 12 of their combatants were killed, including 4 of their field commanders at the battle for Tisneen.
Recently, the Al-Rastan front has intensified, as the Syrian Armed Forces and Jabhat Al-Nusra continuously combat one another in attempt to gain the upper-hand at this rugged area in the Homs Governorate.
Perhaps, the most crucial battle taking place in the Al-Rastan Plains at the moment is inside the strategic city of Talbeisah, where the Syrian Armed Forces have attempted to capture this area after almost six months of ongoing firefights.
