On Wednesday morning, the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” – in coordination with Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) and contingents from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) – conducted a powerful assault on the Syrian Arab Army controlled “68th Brigade” base at the strategic city of Khan Al-Sheih in the West Ghouta (collection of farms) of the Rif Dimashq Governorate.
The attack began when members of Jabhat Al-Nusra attacked a Syrian Arab Army military installment at Tal Abousiyah, where they attempted to penetrate through the latter’s frontline defenses after a series of intense firefights that included a number of airstrikes from the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF).
Following the violent firefights at Tal Abousiyah, the militants from the Free Syrian Army and Jaysh Al-Islam joined their allies from Jabhat Al-Nusra at the outskirts of the 68th Brigade’s base, where they proceeded to attack the Syrian Armed Forces’ defensive barriers at the western perimeter of the military housing on Wednesday afternoon.
Despite their best efforts to evade the Syrian Arab Army’s multiple machine gun turrets, the militants from Jabhat Al-Nusra, Jaysh Al-Islam, and the Free Syrian Army were unable take control of the western perimeter of the military base and the strategic hill of Tal Abousiyah that overlooks it.
