BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:20 A.M.) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called Iran an ‘outlaw regime’ while speaking at the 2018 United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) summit in New York City on Tuesday.
“The Iranian regime’s track record over the past 40 years has revealed that it is among the worst violators of the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolutions, perhaps indeed the worst violator. It is truly an outlaw regime,” Pompeo said.
said he was “deeply disappointed” that the remaining countries of the nuclear deal plan to set up a special payments system with Iran to bypass US sanctions,
“This is one of the most counter-productive measures imaginable for regional and global peace and security,” Pompeo stated.
“By sustaining revenues to the regime, you are solidifying Iran’s ranking as the number one state sponsor of terror.”
The event marked UANI’s 10th anniversary. UANI is an advocacy group that aims to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
On Monday, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini announced that the EU will set up a legal entity to facilitate legitimate financial transaction with Iran.
