BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:45 P.M.) – According to some sources, the Israeli obsession with targeting Syria’s T-4 military airport in Homs province may be due to the present of an Iranian experimental air defense system.

Reports (unconfirmed) claim that Iranian forces known to be operating from the T-4 airbase currently possess a ‘Third of Khordad’ type Raad medium-range air defense system along with several Russian-built Tor batteries (themselves very formidable weapons).

Israel’s zero-tolerance policy towards the presence of Iranian and Iranian-backed forces inside Syria has repeatedly led its military to unilaterally attack targets across the country.

Recently, seven Iranian military personnel were killed in a suspected Israeli missile strike against the T-4 airbase. Although Israel has not official owned up to the attack, many sources have concluded that the country’s air force was responsible for it.

Iran, blaming Israeli for the attack, has vowed to respond.
