BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:25 A.M.) – Members of the far-right, pro-settlement National Union party set up a barbecue outside the Israeli Ofer Prison, located between Ramallah and Beituniya, Thursday, goading Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike inside the prison.
The group set up large fans next to the barbecue stands to intensify the smell of roasting food. According to reports, the food was subsequently given to Israeli soldiers deployed in the area.
Over 2,000 Palestinians are thought to be taking part in the hunger strike against conditions in Israeli jails and the occupation of Palestinian territories, with the action kicking off on Sunday to coincide with Palestinian Prisoners’ Day.
The Palestinian National Council, Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, and Gaza’s governing body Hamas have expressed support for the strike, led by prisoner and Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti.
