Iraqi security forces detained a female Israeli intelligence officer, disguised as an American journalist, in a hotel downtown the Iraqi city of Najaf, but was immediately released under US pressure.
After closely reviewing the case, the Iraqi interior minister ordered Najaf intelligence Directorate to keep her under custody and pass her on to the authorities in Baghdad.
However, as a result of the increased US pressure on senior Iraqi officials, the spy was released and handed over to US forces.
This is the first time an Israeli intelligence officer is identified and arrested. However, security forces discovered a safe haven in Kadhimiya which was extensively used by Israeli agents
Local sources informed that the intelligence chief in Najaf resigned after the woman was eventually released.
Al-Masdar News managed to obtain the personal information of the arrested woman.
