BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:20 P.M.)- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that his country “will prevent Iran from developing precision missiles in Syria and Lebanon.”

In his first statement since the Israeli strikes on Syria’s Hama Governorate, Netanyahu said:

“The goal of the struggle we are waging against Iranian aggression in the region is primarily to defend the State of Israel,” pointing out that “we are taking very seriously the threats to exterminate us from Iranian and pro-Iranian sides against Israel.”

He explained: “In this particular place, at the graduation ceremony of a new regiment of air force pilots, I repeat and say:” Everyone who tries to attack us, exposes himself to a seven-fold greater risk.”

Netanyahu said Israel faces three challenges in regards to Iran: “The Iranian positioning in Syria, the exit of the Iranian army from it, attempts to manufacture high-precision missiles in Syria and Lebanon, and preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.”

The Israeli Intelligence Minister, Eli Cohen, stressed his country’s intelligence ability and cooperation with the Gulf states security in confronting Iran, and pledged to support neighboring countries in facing Iranian ambitions, as Israeli Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi stressed that “Iran has advanced in its nuclear project and has become the state most dangerous in the Middle East to Israel.”

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
