BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 A.M.) – The Israeli Air Force conducted a powerful attack on the Syrian government controlled Al-Nayrab Airport in southern Aleppo last night.
This attack by the Israeli Air Force marked the first time in its existence that they targeted a military installation so far north inside Syria.
Previously, the furthest north that the Israeli Air Force had gone was the Hama Military Airport attack that occurred a few months ago.
The Israeli Air Force attack on the Al-Nayrab Airport was likely conducted due to the large Iranian presence at the installation and its surrounding area.
One of the largest known Iranian bases in Syria is located at the southern Aleppo town of Al-Safira; this is only a short distance away from the Al-Nayrab Airport.
Furthermore, several pro-government paramilitaries like Liwaa Al-Quds (Palestinian group), the Local Defense Forces (LDF), and the National Defense Forces (NDF) are trained in this area.
Israel has not acknowledged that they were behind these strikes on the Al-Nayrab Airbase; however, the Syrian military claimed they traced the attack back to the Israelis.
