BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:00 P.M.) – Israel informed Russia before they launched their attack on the Syrian city of Masyaf over the weekend, Asharq Al-Awsat claimed in a new article on Monday.

Citing the military circles in Tel Aviv, the publication claimed that the Israeli Air Force targeted a base that contained Russian S-300 air defense batteries.

“The sources said that Russia’s silence over the attack, as well as another some two weeks ago against an Iranian military position near Aleppo, reveals the significant development that has taken place in security coordination between Tel Aviv and Moscow,” Asharq Al-Awsat reported.

“The weekend’s Hama attack, which killed Iranian military personnel, served as the first test to this deal. Moscow did not object to or criticize it despite the presence of a base that holds S-300 batteries in the vicinity,” they added.

The publication did not specify if any of the S-300 batteries were harmed; however, a Syrian military source told Al-Masdar over the weekend that this air defense system was not targeted.

Furthermore, the source said the Israeli airstrikes primarily targeted storages in the northern part of Masyaf.

There is little doubt that Israel didn’t inform Russia prior to the attack because there are several Russian military personnel currently active in the area.

for god sake you don’t have clue what you talk about…bildings they hit are part of research missile factory…what s-300…Syrian crews are not even ready yet for S-300 and at least one month it will not be operative..but even when syria deploy s-300 it will not help them against these attacks, because Israel jets fly in lebanon covered by mountains ..then pop up just to lunch missile…this can only be thwarted with air force or with air defense system from Lebanon side..now it is clear why so much pressure was put on Syria to withraw from Lebanon…There is no way Syrian… Read more »

Do you remember russian military boasting the S300 and the electronic jamming will cool down crazy heads ! On 2 October 2018 Choigu declared that the delivery of the S300 was completed. Thus 6 and a half months later Syrian crews are not yet able to use the S300 !!!! Not very clever or not allowed to use it. Last week Israel stroke Aleppo ( no mountain to hide ! ) 120 miles from Lebanon and not able to shoot them down. Three possibilities 1) A/D is BS 2) Russia allows the strike and switches off the system. 3) Israeli… Read more »

How do you know that Russia not allowed SAA to use S-300?…or to retaliate launching ballistic missile as they did months ago when SAA/IRGC launched 55 rockets?…maybe SAA dont want a war vs Israel knowing that there are active 2 worst enemies…US troops and Jihadist of Idlib…

If US were a real enemy, the Syrian state would have been history in 2012, at best 2013. They recently proposed to back Assad’s presidency and to help Syria’s reconstruction. And their only condition for it is Syria’s neutrality. In other terms, send the now totally useless (if they’ve ever been useful) Hezbollah+IRGC packing. Any way, if the Lebanonisation of Syria is not stopped, we’re in for a regional conflict where Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Iran will burn… I’m not sure Syrians, Lebanese and Iraqis would be so hot to the idea, most of Iranians too BTW. The only ones… Read more »

Syrian s-300 is not yet even deployed, they still train crews, did you forget that Russians told that s-300 will be ready in 3 or 4 mounths because Syrian crews were never trained for s-300…there are Russians s-300 and s-400 active but they only protect Russian force,we will have to wait at least one month till these Syrian s-300 became operative….but they have few systems only..Russians did deployed many jammers and radars but only 4 lunchers..which is one unit….not even one battery(battery has 3-5 S-300 systems/units)

” What kind of partner is Russia ?”
=> A good one : without Russia, the Syrian state would have ceased to exist in 2015, maybe early 2016.

Wow ! and Wow ! and Russia did not tell anything to Syria !! WOW ! and WOW !! Well, Israel odes not need to tell anything to RUssia. Russia inteligent system can see and ear everything in Israel, since planes taking off, their direction, and the attack position. The S-300 garbage given to Syria it is not allowed to work against Israel.
